Scientific Underpinnings for Practice

DNP Essential I Scientific Underpinnings for Practice: Using science and nursing theory to improve health care.

Integrating emerging knowledge through applying nursing science with ethics, pharmacology, behavioral sciences and emerging sciences to form a holistic approach to patient needs.

Utilizing nursing and health behavior theories as frameworks to guide decision-making and improve clinical outcomes.

Translating research findings into practical, evidence-based bedside strategies to prevent errors and improve care quality.

Critically reflecting and analyzing experiences to narrow the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical care, working to ensure nursing practice is effective, applicable and evidenced-based.

Integrating emerging science with health behavior theories, in NURS 8030 and 8040 I developed and implemented an evidence-based change project to address quality-of life in the ALS population aligning my clinical practice and scholarly inquiry. This example will be duplicated to demonstrate competency in Essentials III, VI and VII.
