DNP Essential V: Health Care Policy for Advocacy
Influencing and implementing policies for social justice and equity.
- Demonstrate advocacy leadership through developing and implementing evidence-based health policies at the institutional, local, state, federal or global levels.
- Participate on committees, boards, and task forces to influence lawmakers, optimize healthcare delivery, and improve patient outcomes through policy development.
- Promotes professionalism by providing expertise of the nursing profession's role within policy, regulatory, and healthcare communities to ensure nursing expertise is integrated into practice standards.
- Champions ethics in advocacy in social justice, equity, healthcare access and promoting wellness.
Developed for a public health campaign, this work demonstrates advocacy and promotion of wellness in the vulnerable, urban population. This campaign was also used to demonstrate competency in Essential VII.
Leadership within volunteerism and activism remains essential for driving health initiatives and strengthening communities. I am active in chapters of Girl Scouts of America (Greater Los Angeles), Planned Parenthood, Red Cross Disaster health services and support activity running through youth and community engagement events.
